EDITORIAL
As of this issue, the NEW OXFORD REVIEW has 48 pages, up from 40 pages last month. Lord willing, we will continue with 48 pages per issue indefinitely into the future, and continue to be published 11 times a year.
From our first issue (Feb. 1977) through our November 1997 issue, we had 32 pages per issue and were published 10 times per year. As of our December 1997 issue we moved up to 40 pages per issue and increased our frequency of publication to 11 times per year. When we did so, we did not increase our subscription prices (or our cover price). Likewise, our current move up to 48 pages comes without any increase in prices!
Why have we expanded to 48 pages? And how can we manage to do so without increasing prices?
First, the “why.” If you’ve been reading the NOR throughout the 1990s, you know we’ve become increasingly concerned about the assault on the Church and Catholic orthodoxy from both the surrounding neopagan culture and the dissenters inside the Church. The dissenters have long enjoyed protection and implicit support from numerous prelates, but that support seems to be becoming more explicit as more and more prelates publicly challenge the papacy of John Paul II.
