The Catholic journalistic fraternity has a professional organization called the Catholic Press Association (CPA). Even though the NOR and certain other orthodox Catholic periodicals choose not to belong to the CPA — because it is essentially controlled by liberal Catholics — we at the NOR subscribe to its monthly newspaper, The Catholic Journalist, for on occasion it carries some interesting or useful information. A “must” read (whether or not interesting or usefubpis the column by the President of the CPA, currently Dennis Heaney.
Heaney’s column in the October 2002 issue carries the puzzling title, “Crisis Challenges Press With the Opportunity to Aid Healing Process.”
Which crisis?
In the first paragraph we learn that “mistakes” were made that should not be repeated.
What mistakes?
In the second paragraph we learn that the crisis presents the Catholic press with an “opportunity.”
