‘Just Say No’
You not doubt heard that the Food and Drug Administration has approved a new vaccine for cervical cancer, a sexually transmitted disease, for girls and women. Girls are to be given the shot at around age 11.
Mary DeTurris Poust, who writes regularly for the modcon Our Sunday Visitor (OSV), has a column in OSV (July 30) that approved of the shot. She says, “More than 9,000 women will be diagnosed with cervical cancer this year, and 3,700 in the United States will die from it. As the mother of two daughters, I, for one, want to protect them from becoming one of those unfortunate statistics….”
My, DeTurris Poust is a worrywart. Only 9,000 women and girls get cervical cancer in a year. There are about 150,000,000 women and girls in the U.S.
