New to the Mix in 2026
EDITORIAL
The NOR stands on the brink of a significant milestone. When the calendar turned to 2026, we entered our 49th year of publication. At this time next year, God willing, we will be able to celebrate the NOR’s 50th anniversary — no mean feat in this culture of declining religious practice, declining interest in reading, and, frankly, a decline in the ability to think. But that celebration will have to wait.
Yet even now there are some new things to celebrate at ye olde NOR — three things, to be precise. I have the privilege and pleasure of announcing two of them. The third belongs to our contributing editor Casey Chalk. His announcement follows below.
Speaking of contributing editors, the first new thing is that we have added a name to our roster of esteemed contributing editors. The name will be familiar to readers, as we have published several features of his over the past few years: Fr. Robert McTeigue, S.J. Yes, a Jesuit! But — surprise, surprise — he’s not the first member of the Society of Jesus to be so associated with the NOR. We’ve had two other such contributing editors in the past, Fr. Raymond T. Gawronski and Avery Cardinal Dulles, both of loving memory. Fr. McTeigue thus joins some illustrious company. (You can see the full list of deceased contributing editors at newoxfordreview.org/about-us. You can see the list of current contributing editors there as well, and on page 3 of this and every print issue.)
Some of you will know Fr. McTeigue as a broadcaster. He is host of The Catholic Current, a radio talk show that airs every weekday on The Station of the Cross Catholic Media Network, available on every major podcast platform and at thestationofthecross.com. His Let’s Take a Closer Look short-video series can be found at youtube.com/@iCatholicRadio. Both are well worth checking out.
