Back in the U.S.S.R.
In the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, homosexuals were jailed for five years. Homosexuality was classified as a "mental disorder" -- which is what our Catholic Catechism calls it, a "disorder."
The decriminalization of homosexuality occurred in 1993, after the fall of the Soviet Union. Now, homosexuals have come out of the closet -- and not surprisingly -- they want to hold their first "Gay Pride" parade or march in Moscow. According to the British newspaper Independent (Feb. 17), the "Chief Mufti Talgat Tadzhuddin warned that Russia's Muslims would stage violent protests if the march went ahead. 'If they come out on to the streets anyway, they should be flogged. Any normal person would do that -- Muslims and Orthodox Christians alike.'" Indeed, the Russian Orthodox Church joined in by saying the parade would be "propaganda for sin."
Russia's Chief Rabbi Berl Lazar has come out against the parade by saying, according to LifeSiteNews.com (Feb. 17), that "any organization that forwards 'sexual perversions' does not have a right to exist." The Mayor of Moscow, Sergei Tsoi, said that Moscow "will not allow the conduct of a gay parade in any form -- neither open, nor indirect, and all attempts to organize non-sanctioned action will be severely repressed."

|This whole homosexual question boggles the mind. I am reading a book entitled The Marketing of Evil that has a chapter devoted to this phenomenon. This is a highly organized and successful propaganda enterprise.

|An authoritative state isn't bad; an authoritative state that is a tyrant, that is acting out of evil and not for good is a tremendous evil - but so too is a democratic state that allows anything to occur out of a false conception of tolerance of all things. Who is there to reign in a democratic state run a muck? Good for the Russians. They believe some things to be true and others to be false, some things to be good and others to be evil, and they enforce it. I'm not saying they are perfect as they do allow abortions but at least they have a standard. The standard in most Western democracies is that you can't say anything is evil except the idea that there are absolute and authoritative moral truths.

|Great post StBasil777 ! Even an imperfect moral compass is better than no moral guidelines at all, which is where the US is heading. Let's pray the Grace they receive from that will lead to even more moral wisdom. BTW, your comment about absolute and authoritative moral truths is probably over the head of almost every politician in this country - well except maybe for Alan Keys and Pat Bucannan.

|Not long ago there was that common scare tactic: "The Russians are coming! The Russians are coming!" Of course, now we see that the Russians are just (and rightly so) as humanly scared of the Americans and their motives.
But now we we just realized that: "The homosexuals are here! The homosexuals are here!" And we are in the filthiest quagmire we have ever been! Indeed (or misdeed), the gates of hell will attempt to prevail against the Church of our Lord. A guarantee...but also a great warning frm our Lord, Himself.
